Quality child care that promotes optimal health and safety of young children is essential to
strengthening the lives of children and their families. CCCC's Infant/Toddler Initiative focuses
on health consultation and training for child care providers as a means to ensure the healthy
development of young children.

A registered nurse provides technical assistance to centers and family child care providers on
such topics as immunizations, sanitation, nutrition and infection control. Health and safety
workshops are regularly scheduled, providing professional development opportunities for
administrators, teachers and caregivers. Specially-trained community-based nurses also work
with the staff, providing outreach services to local centers and family child care providers.

CCCC works closely with the Union County Health Services Van, providing outreach and
audiology and development screenings for preschoolers at child care centers throughout the county.
